The W.C. Heiam Medical Foundation held its 11th annual benefit on Thursday, August 26, 2004 at Ludlow's Island Resort. The event raised more than $55,000 in support of the Cook Hospital. The theme for the event was "A Lake Vermilion Luau." The evening reflected on the wonderful sights, sounds and flavors of the Islands. The live and silent auctions offered a plethora of dynamic items to bid on. Music was provided by pianist and entertainer extraordinaire Randy Wall, and the Pederson "Island" Brothers. This year's event broke all records with the highest number of people attending and the largest amount raised. The. W.C. Heiam Foundation board members are already busy planning next year's event.
The Foundation has two goals: to provide financial support to meet the current needs of the medical community of Cook, Orr, Crane Lake and Tower and to create a fund that can be used to insure that the Cook Hospital will stay open well into the future.
