The 2005 benefit was held at The Harvest Moon Cooking Company, with 129 in attendance. It was a warm, fall evening. The reception from 5 until 8 p.m. featured the silent auction, with drinks and appetizers for everyone to enjoy while they placed bids on a wide variety of auction items that were donated by area businesses and individuals. A buffet dinner was served at 7 p.m., which featured selections from the fall harvest. Well-known pianist, Randy Wall provided the entertainment. The live auction and raffle drawing were held at 8:30 p.m. Lucky winners were: Jeff Elliott, spa day; Shirley Wood, shotgun; Jeb Judge, mattress set and brush cutter. The money raised for this event included cash and ticket donations, tips, live and silent auction proceeds, raffle proceeds and the proceeds from the pre-benefit Chick Flick party. The additional monies raised will be used to add to the foundation’s endowment fund to provide for future needs of the Cook Hospital. With this year’s contributions, the fund has grown to over $850,000. The goal of the W. C. Heiam Medical Foundation is to create a $2 million endowment fund, which would sustain its annual contribution and allow the foundation to increase its contributions to support the hospital. What happens at a typical Heiam Benefit? Visit with your friends and make new ones, enjoy sensational food, refreshing libations, exciting shopping opportunities and lively music under the stars.
